My Senior Class President Speech
Hello and good evening parents, relatives, teachers, friends, and the reason you all are here, the [redacted] Class of 2022. I'm Matthew Evan, your enthusiastic Senior Class President. It's an honor to be speaking to you all today, and to have attended [redacted] in the first place.
My Dad is in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at [redacted] around when I started eighth grade. My parents knew this school would be special, and they were absolutely right.
It isn't just [redacted], but all of [redacted], is such a tightly knit and kind community. There's not many places quite like here.
On my first day of school here, I remember meeting my classmates for the first time, and [redacted] assigning [redacted] to take me on a tour through the middle school wing. At first, I thought that I wouldn't fit in. Before I finished moving to [redacted] I thought that I might not make any friends at all. But I soon made good friends with all of my classmates. From then to this moment have been nothing short of extraordinary, and I'll remember these moments forever.
I'm sure everyone here has their own idea of what made [redacted] Central School so special to them, so I won't speak in generalities. I will mention something that meant a lot to me. That's the passion for running that has been planted into not just me but many students here at [redacted] Central School. Attending a school notorious for it's talented and award winning Cross Country and Track team, with close friends and my own brother on that team, that'll do it to ya. Seeing my High School Cross Country and Track seasons come to an end left me feeling sad, but happy that it happened. I will love running for years to come. The Cross Country and Track team members have their coaches, parents, the Booster Club *mostly consistent of parents* and the administration making it all possible.
There's so many good things to speak about attending [redacted] Central School, and I'd love to tell you all them, but this speech would be WAY too long. It's already quite lengthy. So I'll leave it to you all to think about what makes this school special to you.
This ceremony, with my fellow graduates, and the audience is a momentous occasion. Up until now, most of us have been taken care of. By our parents and guardians, and by the system. Our steps across this turf mark step towards adulthood and independence with the knowledge we've learned. Becoming independent is a big change, causing many to worry about it. It's a natural human emotion to worry, and to be stressful because of change. But most of the things people like us worry about turn out just fine or rarely affect or lives in any meaningful way. A few recent world events, and I'm sure a couple of your own personal encounters are examples of this. Mark Twain once said, "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened." You can relax, and focus on the moment, and you won't have to worry at all.
I'd also like to talk about happiness. In this speech, I won't speak of happiness as in the temporary feeling, such as when you get in your car and see you won't have to filling it up with gas, or when someone tells you a funny joke. It's more then that. I speak of it as in the contentment with the outcome of your life so far. Your happiness in this context is a great measure as to if you're doing well in life currently. For example, parents here tonight, when you see your son or daughter here, in their traditional cap and gown, ready to receive their diplomas, and step toward their future. You've raised them and have loved them since they were born. On the behalf of all the sons and daughters here, thank you.
Everyone here should strive for that happiness. It may not be parenthood yet that brings you that happiness, but it may be starting a business, getting a job you love, participating in athletics, writing a book, taking photos for people, fixing up and then driving a vehicle as loud as possible and with as much black smoke emitting from it as possible...okay, you get the idea.
If you're feeling unhappy in your current circumstances, something needs to change. Strive to change these circumstances. Look for help in those you love, and help those people too if they need it.
Every now and then, there's students that are absolutely uncertain about what their niche is. Probably a few of the upcoming Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen in the audience.
If you haven't already, I recommend you find a passion if you find yourself with no direction. Mark Twain also once said, "The most important moments of your life are the moment you're born and the moment you find out why." What are you passionate about? What can you be successful in? Look for clubs, teams, classes, and other groups that are for your passion.
Once you become successful in your passion, many good things will come of it, and you will be happy.
As us graduates walk across this turf in this beautiful ceremony, remember that the journey ahead isn't always smooth sailing, but everything will turn out great if you stay positive and keep moving forward. Thanks for having me speak this evening, it has truly been an honor. Congratulations to the [redacted] Class of 2022, we did it.
